Bankhead Razor-Sharp, Shuts Out Cincinnati
Monday, June 30th, 1941
Dan Bankhead shut out the Cincinnati Reds 6-0 on a 6-hit masterpiece for the Chicago Cubs at Crosley Field today.
"He was kind of teasing them with his off-speed stuff, and his fastball was moving everywhere," Chicago skipper said afterward.
Bankhead registered 11 strikeouts and issued 3 walks in pitching a gem.
"We just didn't swing the bats very well. Or else he just pitched good, whichever way you want to look at it," said Cincinnati manager after the defeat.
In 17 starts this season Bankhead has chalked up a 10-6 record and a 2.62 ERA.
